Can ADHD Be Cured?

Updated: Apr 9, 2024

When I was a kid my family had a beautiful black and gray persian-ish cat named Pandora. I was Pandora’s chosen person and, if you know cats, you know how incredible it can feel to be the one chosen by an aloof cat. I loved Pandora and I loved being her person but, it came at a cost because I am allergic to cats.

The cuddles that made me feel so special also left me with predictable allergy symptoms -itchy and swollen eyes, a runny nose, constant sneezing, and wheezing, short, constricted breath. At their best my allergy symptoms were constant and unremitting, at their worst they were debilitating.

“You should not have a cat.” is what I can understand you might be thinking. The logical thing is to NOT have the animal that makes your eyes swell shut and restricts your breathing.

I have a cat.

I am no longer impacted by the symptoms of my cat allergy.

Why?

Because I have learned to manage them.

Allergies are not curable but I can manage them and, if I manage them, the symptoms that debilitated me as a child, no longer impact me.

ADHD cannot be cured. However, some of the symptoms of ADHD can be managed and that is where an executive skills coach can help. Symptoms of ADHD, like forgetfulness, poor self-monitoring, and disorganization are, at their core, executive functioning skills that can be strengthened with practice.
