Philosophy

ADHD, or Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that can pose challenges to a child’s ability to exercise self-restraint, control their emotions, focus, initiate tasks, plan and prioritize, manage their time, and tolerate stress and frustration. ADHD can also impact working memory, organization, the ability to define and achieve goals, flexibility, and observation.

In short, ADHD can impact executive functioning skills. Even in the absence of ADHD children may experience challenges in one, or more, of these executive functions. This problem is even more acute for elementary and middle-school girls whose executive functioning deficits are often misunderstood or overlooked.

However, executive functioning skills can be taught, practiced and strengthened thereby reducing the impact of these challenges on girls’ short and long term academic and social success and their emotional well-being.
